Seed to Vase: Growing a Cut Flower Garden

Come and join Susie in her cutting garden as she walks you through the basics of starting a cut flower patch in your own growing space.

Spend the morning on the farm learning how to plan and plant your own cut flower garden (as well as tips from Susie on growing dahlias, drying flowers and saving seeds).

 What we will cover:

• The importance of healthy soil
• Compost
• Location
• Seed starting - The how's and when's
• What to grow - Recommendations for beginners
• Sourcing seeds and tubers
• A brief introduction to growing dahlias
• How to care for the plants in your garden (feeding, staking, cutting)
• Drying flowers - How and when?
• Seed saving basics

What to expect:

We'll meet at 09:00, start with a very brief chat and welcome by Susie and then move onto hands-on demonstrations in the garden and greenhouse. We will break for tea and light refreshments and then head to the studio where Susie will offer guidance on the topics mentioned above. We will end with a Q&A session with Susie.

Experience required:

The workshop is an introduction to growing cut flowers. You do not need any floral or garden experience to attend and enjoy the workshop. The workshop is for anyone who loves flowers and would like to learn how to plan and plant their own cut flower garden. All materials are supplied, just come ready to learn and have fun.

The workshop will take place in CONSTANTIA, WESTERN CAPE and spots are limited.

Time: 09:00 - 13:00
Cost: R 1,500 per person

What is included:

• Tea, coffee and light refreshments
• A seed tray
• Bag of seedling soil mix
• 3 x Packets of seeds from Susie's garden
• 1 x Dahlia tuber from Susie's garden
• Seedling tray markers
• Small bottle of liquid plant food for seedlings
• 10m of Hortinova netting (dahlia support)
• Tote bag
• A fun and informative morning with fellow garden enthusiasts

You will leave with your seed starter pack (outlined above) and the skills and knowledge required to sow and grow your own cut flowers.

• The price above is for one person. Should you have questions, please read our Workshop T's and C's below.
• You'll receive an e-mail the week of your chosen workshop date with everything you need to know for the event (how to find us, where to park, what to bring etc.)

• Please note that the workshop fee is non-refundable, however, if you're unable to attend after booking your spot, the ticket is transferable.
• We have a full programme planned for the workshop, please ensure that you arrive promptly so we can maximise our time together.
• Attendees understand and agree that they may be photographed during the event and that the images may be used for future promotion.
